Climate Data Analyst/Programmer

Duration :  Permanent 

Reports to :  Head of Climate Risk 

ROLE MISSION

  • Urgentem is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and hard-working individual to join the Data team in the field of sustainable finance.

  • Work within the Climate Risk and Data team and provide assistance in Python and R programming, data wrangling, and data pipelines.

  • Be involved in product development and write technical documentations and specs.

  • Research and Development of new modules in the Urgentem Element6 platform.

  • Research and Development into other products including equity index creation, carbon pricing, and wider asset class climate risk analysis. 

  • Mentoring and training interns when required.

  • Support the marketing and research efforts of the company as and when required i.e. writing blogs, attending events etc.

We recently launched a climate-risk platform which provides a holistic vantage point of company emissions with an array of analytics and data for risk management purposes. The new technology platform enables Urgentem’s clients to clearly understand their portfolio emissions and climate risks, meet regulatory and fiduciary reporting requirements and navigate the transition to a sustainable economy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years experience as a programmer or quantitative analyst or climate finance analyst with a hedge fund or asset manager or bank in a risk / trading function

  • A typical profile would be an engineering graduate from a leading engineering university with subsequent experience and/or training in finance, a PhD in natural sciences, finance or economics, 

 

KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in Data management

  • Proficiency in R and Python and will be required to pick up MongoDB

  • A good understanding of climate change issues in the context of material risks for financial institutions

  • A good understanding of finance

  • Strong prioritisation, organisational and project management skills

  • Good qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Flexible, diligent and collaborative working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully;

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Proficiency in other languages are an advantage

  • Quickly learn new technologies as needed

  • Become an expert in the field of climate risk data and analytics

  • Manage time and resources effectively and work to targets

  • Be part of a cross-functional and international project team

  • Engage with high-level financial professionals on key issues in the climate change space, including regulation, market standards and analytical approaches

Urgentem’s main office is Located in London, UK. The successful candidate will work five days per week and must be able to work legally in the United Kingdom or New Zealand.
