Data Engineer

Duration : Permanent 

Reports to : Head of Data 




  • This is an amazing opportunity for someone with a few years experience to take a step up and work as the primary developer implementing a new high quality data infrastructure.

  • You will be spending most of your time building/coding solutions and solving problems, and this will involve working on all aspects of the front to back data flows, from the very initial data collection to front end APIs.

  • You will need to build robust databases and pipelines using version control, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure and automated monitoring, and do this in a way that is optimised for data quality/consistency rather than high volume or low latency.

We recently launched a climate-risk platform which provides a holistic vantage point of company emissions with an array of analytics and data for risk management purposes. The new technology platform enables Urgentem’s clients to clearly understand their portfolio emissions and climate risks, meet regulatory and fiduciary reporting requirements and navigate the transition to a sustainable economy.




  • Keen to learn by working on a large variety of different technologies and projects spanning data engineering, DevOps, programming, IT, and quality assurance.

  • Enjoys technical problem solving and figuring out the best way to do something. Not afraid to question what’s going on and suggest better solutions.

  • Sets high standards for themselves and is meticulous with data.

  • Interested in the wider business to understand what problems we’re trying to solve and therefore why certain solutions are better.

  • Seeking a role at a small, fast paced and high growth company rather than large traditional firm.  

  • Interested in climate change and sustainable finance.



  • Solid technical degree (any science or engineering related subject)

  • 3-5 years working on data engineering and related activities



  • Experience in database design and administration

  • Knowledge of ETL processes & APIS

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, version control & CI/CD

  • Experience in automated reporting

  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL
