Senior Climate Analyst & Python Developer

Full Time - Auckland and/or London

We recently launched a climate-risk platform which provides a holistic vantage point of company emissions with an array of analytics and data for risk management purposes. The new technology platform enables Urgentem’s clients to clearly understand their portfolio emissions and climate risks, meet regulatory and fiduciary reporting requirements and navigate the transition to a sustainable economy.

  • Design, build and maintain APIs and microservices in Climate Platform

  • Develop and maintain APIs and backend / cloud services for Climate Data

  • Develop and support new climate risk-based research and analytics

  • Participate in code reviews

  • Review, maintain and refactor existing code to meet the requirements for improved or new features




  • Master’s Degree in Climate Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or relevant field

  • Climate science or modelling experience or knowledge

  • 3-5+ years’ experience with Python

  • 3+ Experience building micro services & REST API

  • 3+ Experience with python web framework (Flask, FastAPI)

  • 3+ years’ experience with non-relational Database Systems such as MongoDB

  • Working knowledge of Docker, GitHub

  • Extensive hand-on experience with backend technologies and Python language

  • Strong knowledge of web services development and testing

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL Database Systems

  • Ability to write clean, modular, well-commented, readable and reusable code


  • Fluency in English and teamwork skills

  • An analytical mind, great attention to detail

  • Keen problem solver with a logical mindset
